2004 Tahoe Snowmobiling Photos

Following is a selected set of snowmobile photos from the 2004 winter snowmobile season. All photos shown were reduced in size and quality for faster internet download and for efficient display on your computer. Usage of these photos for printing and other purposes, may give inferior results.

Besides photo number and date, the trail head is given where the photo was taken. Visit the Riding Area web page for a list of trail heads and riding areas.

Please contact the webmaster at if you you would like an original copy of any photo(s), in jpg file format. Most of the original photos are sized at 1600 x 1200 pixels and have a file size ranging from 400 to 950 KBs.

#4, 1/12/04, Tahoe Meadows: Lawerance Anderson, OHV Manager for the Humboldt Toiyabe Forest, out of the Carson Ranger District, being interviewed by the Reno Channel 8 TV news crew at Tahoe Meadows on the snowmobile patrols being done at Tahoe Meadows.

#5, 1/14/04, Brockway: Greg McKay talking to Ron Thompson, FPO, of the LTBMU about the patrol efforts of the Forest Service in the Tahoe Basin. They are standing on top of Mt. Watson, while over looking Lake Tahoe on a sunny afternoon.

#6, 1/14/04, Brockway Summit: Greg McKay continuing his discusion on the joint cooperation of the local snowmobile club with the Forest Service on the joint snowmobile patorl efforts, with Doug Ridley, LTBMU Trails Manager and Ron Tompson, FPO, LTMBU.

#7, 1/17/04, Little Truckee Summit: Coats are to be worn and not allowed to slip into the snowmobile tracks. Needless to be said, this coat was no longer wearable after being extracted from the tracks. Chuck English, is providing moral advice to Tom while removing his coat. This occured while on a ride out of Little Truckee Summit.

#8, 1/28/04, Kingsbury Grade: Lawerace Anderson, OHV Manager for the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, and Pliny Olivier, former president of the Lake Tahoe Snowmobile Association, overlook Carson Valley from a peak between Spooner Simmit and Kingsbury Grade.

#9, 1/28/04, Kingsbury Grade: Wayne Fischer, president of the North Tahoe Snow Travelers, and Lawerence Anderson, Forest Service OHV Manager out of the Carson Ranger District, at Airplane Peak. This is the exact spot where an airplane crashed over 40 years ago during a major snow storm. This point is near Genoa Peak, between Spooner Summit and Kingsbury Grade on the east shores of Lake Tahoe.

#10, 1/29/04, Blackwood Canyon: Steve Rhichter, Ken Wallace, Clayton Whitmarsh and Al Azcarate, enjoying a beautiful ride out of Blackwood Canyon, on the west shores of Lake Tahoe, right after a fresh snow storm. For those of you who don't snowmobile, scenery like this can't be beat on a very nice and gorgeous day.

#11, 1/29/04, Blackwood Canyon: On our way back to the parking lot at the base of Blackwood Canyon, Chuck English decided to try one more uphill cliimb up an easy ravine. Normally, this would be a piece of cake, but due to the fresh snow storm a few days earlier, the snow had not set up. He stuck it less than 40 feet from the road. Clayton Whitmarsh and Ken Wallace are getting ready for the rescue.

#13, 2/11/04, Kingsbury Grade: Reno Gazette-Journal reporter, Mark Vanderhoff, standing on a ridge above Cave Rock, pondering the spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.

#14, 2/13/04, Sky Tavern (on Mt. Rose Highway - 431): Arctic Cat held a week long demo ride of their 2004 snowmobiles at Reno's ski hill, which is located part way up 431. Monday through Thursday was for their dealers with Friday was open to the public. It was the first time many snowmobilers had a chance to ride 4 stroke snowmobiles.

#15, 3/3/04, Brockway Summit: Just another day in paradise. Al Azarate, Clayton Whitmarsh, Dick Carnel and Chuck English enjoying a great ride between Brockway Summit and Tahoe City.

#16, 3/20/04, Blue Lakes: The California Nevada Snowmobile Association (CNSA) held a membership drive right next to the Blue Lakes parking area. Jay Dobler (CNSA VP) is cooking some jucy hambergers for snowmobile guests.

#17, 3/20/04, Blue Lakes: All who came to ride at Blue Lake on March 20th had a chance to see Ski Doo's new Elite snowmobile - a 2 seater snowmobile that rides and drives like a small sports car.

#18, 3/20/04, Blue Lakes: A view of the open meadows, just east of the Blue Lakes parking area.

#19, 4/2/04, Brockway Summit: Lane Lindstrom, editor of SnoWest Magazine, standing on top of a ridge overlooking Lake Tahoe. He was taking some photos shots for his magazine. See the January, 2005 issue for the story he wrote, based on this snowmobile outing.

#21, 4/2/04, Brockway Summit: These are the GPS tracks of the snowmobile ride, showing Lane Linstrom the northern slopes of Lake Tahoe. Note that this map was published in the January, 2005 issue of SnoWest. Wayne Fischer recorded the GPS track waypoints and then created the map using the Topo mapping software.

#22, 4/3/04, Reno-Sparks Convention Center: The exhibit floor at the 2004 Reno-Tahoe Sled Fest Trade show, held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno.

#23, 4/7/04, Sonora Pass: The last ride of the season for Greg McKay, Bob Kellogg (owner of Eagle Ridge Snowmobile Outfitters - north of Truckee) and Wayne Fischer (not shown). This was at the end of the plowed Highway 88 road for a great ride in the Sonora Pass area.

#24, 5/15/04, Little Truckee Summit: After all the snow had melted, home owners and volunteer snowmobilers clean up the Little Truckee Summit parking area. Around 25 people put in some hard work for 3 hours and then enjoyed a filling lunch, paid for by Bill Oberg.
